Overview of Book:

30 Day Intro to Paleo provides a good overview of what the Paleo diet is and why it is worth following. It details foods by groups in a comprehensive way, even touching specifically on drinks and snacking. Basics are defined and explained – including the difference between fats and oils and what gluten free is really all about. Finally the book includes shopping tips and a four week meal plan with recipes to get you started. The recipes are clearly marked with prep time, cooking time, total time and complexity making it easy to follow. If you aren’t specifically following the program but just bought the book for the recipes, these descriptors make it easy to decide on meals based on how much real time you have. Unlike some cookbooks that feature pictures of some recipes, here each one comes with a visual.

Who This Book is For:

30 Day Intro to Paleo is for anyone having trouble starting a Paleo lifestyle, anyone daunted by the idea of even considering it, and anyone wondering why or what it’s all about.

Favorite Chapter:

Since 30 Day Intro to Paleo is designed to introduce people to the Paleo diet I love the chapter called ‘What to Eat.’ To have everything laid out simply, specifically and in easy to understand terms eliminates guessing and satisfies the need many of us have of being told what to do, especially when we first start on a new course of action. The shopping lists in particular eliminate guesswork and make the process clean and simple.

Top 3 Recipes:

Breakfast for me is the most challenging meal of the day. Between preparing lunches to send off to school, dragging kids out of bed and getting myself ready for the day, the temptation to revert to old habits of grabbing a bowl of cereal or a bagel is sometimes hard to resist. Simple, quick and healthy breakfast options that don’t add to the morning workload are irresistible. The Veggie Scramble, made in less time than even the 15 minutes suggested because we always have left-over veggies from the night before is a no-brainer and different each time based on the previous night’s meal. The French Omelet, made in 10 minutes total, also fits our busy mornings and can be quickly spiced up with a few chopped onions or peppers. Finally the Egg Muffins are a hit in our home. Thrown together quickly, these tasty muffins can cook while I get the troops up and out of bed and are ready when they are. I always make a big batch because they keep well in the fridge for days and can either be quickly heated for a quick after school snack or breakfast again the next morning.

About Heather Seftel-Kirk: Not a physician or nutritionist, Heather came to her understanding of food and health through parenting three children, now teens, who seemed not to fit the ‘norms’ of health and through questions…so many questions.
