We Can All Scream For Ice Cream

Book Title:

We Can All Scream For Ice Cream

Book Author(s): Jennifer Robins & Vivian Cheng

Overview of Book:

We Can All Scream For Ice Cream is a book filled with recipes for frozen treats allowing concerned parents to let kids ‘be kids’ and enjoy the same kinds of treats their friends are having, and for adults to enjoy without breaking their healthy eating patterns.

The book has been written specifically with the Paleo Autoimmune Protocol in mind. This means the recipes have taken Paleo eating one step further, eliminating allergens including nuts and other ingredients that are often connected to food intolerances. Introductory chapters include information about digestion and the connection to health issues and kitchen tips. Recipes can be made with an ice cream maker or without so there are no special tools required.

Who This Book is For:

This book is for anyone who loves a good ‘ice cream,’ anyone who loves their desserts, and anyone who appreciates that healthy eating can also be fun and creative.

Favorite Chapter:

My favorite chapter is Sundaes, Other Treats & Garnishes. While I’ve experimented a bit with Paleo ‘ice creams’ before, this chapter has opened up new possibilities for amazing desserts and treats that go beyond impressive. I can’t wait to try all of these on my family. The wonderful thing about recipes like these is that they are general enough that you can easily substitute in your favorite ingredients to create your own special dishes.

Top 3 Recipes:

My favorite ice cream recipe is the Raspberry Lime Sorbet. I love sorbet, especially in the summer, and this recipe is quick and easily adapted to many other fruit options. I love that the directions offer both ice cream maker and plain old freezer options and that even with the slower freezer option you can decide in the morning to mix up a batch and by the afternoon the sorbet will be ready to enjoy.

My second pick is the Kiwi Blackberry Popsicles. These popsicles will take a little more time than the ‘pour into a mold’ and enjoy variety, but boy are they pretty. Again the option is there to substitute fruits to make your own variations on the recipe, but whatever you choose, the visual and taste impact is going to be impressive.

My third pick is the Ice Cream Sandwiches. These are such a wonderful idea and so flexible. Just by changing up the kind of ice cream or adding your own special touches the possibilities here are endless. You could for instance roll the sides of the sandwich in flakes of coconut or other ingredients to create an extra special treat. A thicker cookie, more like a brownie, would make for a delicious stackable plate dessert, covered perhaps with the book’s Caramel Sauce, Choco-o-Shell or Coconut Whipped Cream. Oh, or maybe a bit of all three… The possibilities and taste temptations are endless.

About Heather Seftel-Kirk: Not a physician or nutritionist, Heather came to her understanding of food and health through parenting three children, now teens, who seemed not to fit the ‘norms’ of health and through questions…so many questions.
