It’s often tough figuring out what to eat when you’re on vacation, and I’ve definitely had to put up with non-Paleo food or fasting on vacation before. However, Scotland has been pretty easy to stay Paleo!

My parents came to visit us in Edinburgh a few weeks ago, and we drove up to the Isle of Skye for a quick weekend tour. Not only was the scenery absolutely amazing (take a look at the some of the photos below), but the food was superb too!

We didn’t make any reservations or do any research – many of the B&Bs and restaurants were all fully booked, so we just wandered into the Restaurant at the Rosedale Hotel because they had a table free.

There’s a large selection of fresh seafood at the restaurant, and we took advantage of much of that! (Note that the menu on their website seems to be dated as we didn’t have anything from that menu!)

The Appetizers

My dad and I started with the smoked salmon while my mum had the tomato basil soup and Jeremy had the venison salami. I believe the smoked salmon was cured using the local Talisker whisky. It was really good!

The Entrees

I had the crab salad, which was delicious and very fresh (but it’s not huge so I wouldn’t recommend it if you are really hungry). Also, the claws were rather hard to crack, so I’d suggest asking the chef to do it for you. I’m usually pretty good at cracking crabs, but this one had a seriously thick shell!

My dad went with the fish of the day (hake) – they gave him a side of vegetables too so he wouldn’t have to eat the mashed potatoes.

My mum and Jeremy both ordered the salmon.

As usual, we skipped dessert.
