- 1 long cucumber, chilled, peeled and chopped into chunks
- 1/4–1/2 honeydew melon (depending on sweetness), chilled, and chopped into chunks

I got a Thermomix over a year ago as a wedding gift from some family in Vancouver, and I’ve only just opened the box to use it!
Quite a few readers have emailed me about recipes using the Thermomix as well (if you are in the US, then you probably haven’t come across the Thermomix so read below to find out about it, but it’s become very popular in Australia, Germany, Canada, and Taiwan among other places).
I’ve got quite a lot of kitchen equipment, and so I wasn’t sure what the Thermomix would add. I was quite wrong apparently, and I found it fantastic to use to make soups (although if you have a Vitamix or Blendtec, then those work just as well for this purpose). The blender is very powerful and making soups and mash is easy with this.
Thermomix is a really versatile piece of kitchen equipment – it chops, blends, steams, whips, and weighs among other things.
And it’s all just one device. If you already have a great kitchen and cook a lot, then this isn’t really that useful for you (hence why it’s not a fantastic addition to my kitchen), but if you have a small kitchen space, or travel a lot, then this could be fantastic for you!
It’s like several devices all in one – so you don’t need a stovetop to cook dinner. And the containers it comes with are easy to clean so washing up is easier too.
But it is really pricy – I don’t know how much they are in other countries, but currently, they’re over $3000 on Amazon! To be honest, I would not have bought this for myself, but I am really thankful that I have wonderful relatives who are willing to splurge on my behalf!
One of the best uses of the Thermomix is that you can buy a carry-on case for it and take it with you on vacations – all you need is an electric outlet (found in most hotels) and a sink (found in most bathrooms).
I made this soup recipe using the blending function on the Thermomix.
20 seconds on Speed 5 to chop everything up and 30 seconds on Speed 10 to get it really smooth.
