Chicken wings: a perfect appetizer to any all-American meal! My foreigner boyfriend loves to make chicken wings as a starter when he cooks for “American night” with his friends and I never considered chicken wings to be so exemplary of American cuisine, but it just so happens…
Through a little research, I discovered that Buffalo wings (arguably the most famous way to prepare chicken wings) actually originated in Buffalo, New York! I thought Buffalo sauce was a special secret but it turns out it’s just a vinegar-based cayenne pepper hot sauce with butter. While I do enjoy that sauce from time to time, I also love my wings with honey mustard, teriyaki, and other sauces and dips. Luckily there are myriad variations, and plenty of ways to prepare them according to Paleo standards! Here’s our complete list of delicious Paleo chicken wings recipes!
Top 3 Paleo Chicken Wings Recipes
I’m a firm believer that everything goes better with mango. And that includes chicken wings! These Paleo glazed chicken wings are not only Whole 30 and Autoimmune Paleo-friendly (thanks Rach!), they include delicious Asian flavors and an accompanying Paleo Sweet Chili dipping sauce recipe. Two recipes for the price of one… wait, they’re free – only on the Meatified blog! (Thanks to Rach for letting us use her photo.)
These simple honey garlic chicken wings are the perfect combination of salty and sweet. The honey plus coconut aminos (a great alternative to soy sauce) blended with apple cider vinegar and lemon make a delicious, sticky and tangy sauce for these wings to marinate in and bake to perfection. I personally would add the real grated ginger to the mix instead of the recommended ginger powder, but whatever you have on hand should be fine. (Special thanks to Sarah for letting us reproduce her image; check out more of her great recipes at The Paleo Mom!)
Fortunately this recipe has very few ingredients – the only potential issue is the amount of equipment required! Still, I love how thorough Amy is, both with her instructions and outlining all the tools you need (take it more as a recommendation). Don’t be overwhelmed by first impressions; these highly-detailed instructions are actually pretty simple when you get down to it.
Ancestral Chef’s Paleo Pasta Recipes
Here is a great Paleo chicken wing recipe from our own site!
Ancestral Chef uses coconut flour and spices on these crispy-coated wings. If you’re not a fan of spicy foods feel free to leave off the hot sauce and try her Paleo ranch dressing recipe instead, which is also linked in the above post.
Baked Paleo Chicken Wings Recipes
With just six ingredients (two of them coming from lemon and another two being the salt and pepper!), this recipe is the kind to make when you are in a rush. Just be sure to buy organic lemon for the zest because the peels of non-organic ones can sometimes have a bitter taste.
These look delicious – especially the accompanying almond sauce! But it may not be so easy to find Sherry vinegar. Red wine vinegar would probably work as a fine substitute.
Here are some classic buffalo wings marinated in Frank’s Hot Sauce AND cooked with habanero pepper! Talk about spicy!
Another very simple, low-ingredient count chicken wing recipe, the use of turmeric, cumin and paprika could also be interpreted as Indian-style chicken wings, at least in my book.
Lisa isn’t 100% sure that Frank’s Red Hot Sauce is Paleo-compliant so just in case, she has recommended another one to try that she has (and provides a link to order the alternative).
This recipe is easy with only two ingredients, but one of them (the spice mix) needs to be pre-made so follow the link to either the ranch seasoning or Cajun mix and make that first.
Grilled Paleo Chicken Wings Recipes
Bordering on the elaborate side, at least these step-by-step pictures make this recipe fail-proof, and based on how the final product turns out, I have a feeling your hard work will be well-appreciated.
These salty-sweet wings from Everyday Maven get a large dose of turmeric powder. While it doesn’t have a huge effect on the flavor (although it does affect the color of anything it gets added to), turmeric is almost magical in its myriad health benefits. That’s why it has been used in Ayurvedic cooking in India for thousands of years.
Smoked Paleo Chicken Wings Recipes
These wings are nothing more than smoked in a smoker or on the grill and served with lime and your choice of sauce. Leaving it up to you to decide what should accompany these beautiful wings!
This recipe looks simple and delicious! That is, if you happen to have a Bradley Smoker. (I’m not familiar but I have a feeling it’s for smoked-food fanatics.)
The super spiciness of these pecan-smoked wings with jalapeño and Louisiana hot sauce gets totally balanced out with the help of the perfect Paleo-friendly ranch dressing recipe.
