30 Amazing Paleo Waffle Recipes
Post by Lucha: World traveler, culinary student and Media Director at Paleo Flourish Magazine. Lucha will try most food but prefers Indian, Thai and Mexican food above all else. She is currently either cooking, eating, grocery shopping, or browsing recipes on Pinterest.
From Eggo to The Waffle House, waffles are incredibly popular these days. And the varieties are endless: Belgian, chocolate chip, blueberry, and countless others. Sadly, though, most waffles are extremely processed, and their typical toppings are often worse. That’s why I know that you’ll love this list of the best Paleo waffle recipes. These waffles are nutritious and yet still perfect for breakfast or any other time.
We’ve found a mix of both traditional and very non-traditional Paleo waffle recipes, so you should be able to find at least one recipe to suit your tastes.
(Of course, you will need to have a waffle iron in order to make these waffle recipes!)
Top 9 Paleo Waffle Recipes
1. Paleo Chocolate Waffles
These waffles use a base of almond flour and sweet-n’-healthy apple sauce for moistness! Plus, Kelly Bejelly provides a simple and amazing chocolate sauce for topping! (Photo credit: Kelly Bejelly from A Girl Worth Saving.)
Ingredients: applesauce, eggs, coconut flour, superfine blanched almond flour, baking soda, sea salt, vanilla, cocoa powder, dark chocolate chips, coconut oil.
2. Bacon and Spinach Egg Waffles
These waffles are like a pun in a recipe. They really ARE just eggs cooked in a waffle iron! Karen uses coconut milk to add a bit more body and tops them with bacon bits (!!!), and spinach. YUM!
Ingredients: eggs, coconut milk, salt, pepper, bacon, spinach.
3. Yuca Waffles
Not only is this an amazing alternative-waffle recipe for those who love yuca, this is also a great introduction to this interesting root vegetable, including useful information on the differences between yuca and tapioca (a derivative). Ingredients: yuca, banana, avocado oil.
4. Waffles
This is the basic Paleo waffle recipe that can be customized to your liking – maple syrup and fruits are the direction I’d go with, personally.
Ingredients: green plantains, eggs, vanilla, extra virgin coconut oil, salt, baking soda.
5. Nut-Free Sunbutter Banana Waffles
A great option for people with nut allergies, these waffles are as easy as combining the ingredients in a food processor and filling the waffle iron. You can even freeze the leftovers to toast later!
Ingredients: bananas, eggs, sunflower seed butter, maple syrup, vanilla, arrowroot flour, cinnamon, baking soda.
6. Grain Free Buffalo Chicken Waffles
Great for fans of savory breakfasts, these buffalo chicken waffles come with a beautiful (and spicy!) buffalo sauce coated and sautéed chicken mix. A mix of almond, tapioca and coconut flours are used to make the batter.
Ingredients: chicken, Frank’s hot sauce, green onions, blanched almond flour, tapioca flour, coconut flour, garlic powder, baking soda, cayenne, eggs, coconut milk, ghee (or butter or oil), salt, pepper.
7. Chocolate Waffles
Points here for simplicity – this is a waffle recipe that can be quick and easy or dressed up with more fruits and toppings if you so desire.
Ingredients: almond meal, coconut milk, dark chocolate chips, eggs, unsweetened cocoa powder, maple syrup or raw honey, vanilla extract, baking soda, cinnamon, salt.
8. Bacon & Maple Syrup Waffles with Fried Egg
As a kid I never mixed the sweet and savory at breakfast time… bacon went with eggs and everything else stayed separate. Now I see the error of my ways! Bacon with these maple-drenched waffles makes for a great savory-sweet juxtaposition. A must try!
Ingredients: bacon, eggs, coconut milk, pure maple syrup, vanilla extract, almond flour, baking soda, sea salt, cooking fat.
9. “Red Velvet” Beet Waffles And Chocolate Ganache
Anything that gets called “red velvet” always piques my interest, and these waffles are no exception! Who knew that beets worked so well as a natural food dye (not to mention a healthy addition to the dish). A side recipe for chocolate ganache works great as a sauce to top it off.
Ingredients: beets, eggs, raw honey, full fat coconut milk, coconut flour, cocoa powder, coconut sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, unsweetened bakers chocolate, coconut oil, raw honey.
