4 reasons for eating seaweed

Seaweed? I can see you closing this post already! Don’t!!

I know it’s not a common food, but it’s super healthy and really easy to prepare – I’ve got a recipe coming in a few days.

So, what’s so great about a food that has the word “weed” in it??

4 Reasons to Eat Seaweed

    1. Seaweed is a rich source of iodine, which is important for healthy thyroid function.

According to this 2013 review, iodine deficiency affects perhaps 241 million children world-wide, and may be causing hearing impairing in many of those children!

  1. Seaweed is a great source of lignans, which may help protect against cancer (especially breast cancer).
  2. Seaweed is high in folic acid, which has been linked to prevention of birth defects.
  3. Seaweed is a good source of fucoidan, which may prevent formation of harmful blood clots.

Would you eat seaweed?

Have you tried seaweed? Would you try it? Let me know in the comments below.

Mara Seaweed - September 30

Good to eat, good for you too. What’s not to like?

Pamela - April 18

Yes! I love nori and wakame. Sea Snax are some of my favorite munchies, alsong with nori in sushi rolls. Wakame is excellent added to soup or crumbled dried as a seasoning. 😀

I look forward to new recipes!
