- Seaweed is a rich source of iodine, which is important for healthy thyroid function.
According to this 2013 review, iodine deficiency affects perhaps 241 million children world-wide, and may be causing hearing impairing in many of those children!
- Seaweed is a great source of lignans, which may help protect against cancer (especially breast cancer).
- Seaweed is high in folic acid, which has been linked to prevention of birth defects.
- Seaweed is a good source of fucoidan, which may prevent formation of harmful blood clots.
