Since we released our favorite Paleo Pasta Recipes last week, I thought it only appropriate to follow up with this list of great Paleo Meatball Recipes as well! What stood out to me though, was that many of these recipes are not totally necessary as a pasta topper –they are amazing as a standalone dish, meaty starter, or take-away poppers for lunchtime or a snack on a long commute.
Many of these Paleo meatball recipes are a combination of two or more kinds of meat – I’ve saved you the trouble with the longer list below and labeled them so you can find what you’re looking for more easily. Our Top 7 recipes are all single-meat-type recipes and you can learn more about those awesome creations in the descriptions. Enjoy!
Top 7 Paleo Meatball Recipes
These spicy pork meatballs sound too amazing to share a plate with anything else! (They’d surely overshadow zucchini noodles.) Tropical flavors like coconut and pineapple blend swimmingly with jalapeños and cayenne pepper. The thought of this perfect harmony of sweet, salty, and spicy has got me salivating over these Bora Bora balls faster than you can say ‘whisk me to the South Pacific’! One of our favorite Paleo bloggers, Sonia from the Healthy Foodie is back with these amazing Chinese-style chicken meatballs. Another dish that does not need a pasta accompaniment, I’m again amazed at how she makes something so seemingly un-Paleo into a Paleo-friendly meal! Date paste helps as it acts as a natural sweetener and the anchovy paste may seem a bit out there, but having tried some of Sonia’s recipes already, I’m going to go ahead and trust that these tastes perfect. I can’t get enough Indian food and I love that Mike from The Iron You did up some meatballs in perfect Indian fashion (but I feel obligated to mention that they don’t eat beef in India, but no worries!). Garam masala is simply the best spice mix around, and the egg and sweet potatoes must certainly add a great consistency to these meatballs. The only catch is that, in true Indian fashion, yogurt is up in the mix. That makes this recipe “primal” and a no-go for the strictly Paleo (but you can just opt to just leave it out). (Mike provided the photo above; check out more great recipes from his blog, The Iron You.)
Another Primal-not-Paleo meatball recipe, this Greek-style turkey meatball recipe looks delicious nonetheless. This is a perfect combo of feta, sundried tomatoes and thyme held together with the help of egg and almond flour. Sounds like a classic! (Photo credit to Melissa from I Breathe… I’m Hungry.)
The title alone caught my interest for obvious reasons. Raspberries? Chipotle? Raspberry chipotle meatballs?! At first, it made no sense but now I see that, along with ground pork, fennel seeds, and bacon, these meatballs have an amazing fusion of sweet, savory, spicy and strange flavors that cannot be labeled anything except totally original. I can’t wait to try this out once raspberries are back in season!! (Torie, from The Creative Caveman, gave permission for us to reproduce the above image.)
I hope you’re a fan of things hot and spicy because this lamb mince meatball recipe packs a punch! In my ignorance, I had to look up what Harissa was (and I call myself a culinary student!). I discovered that it is a chili paste made of garlic, coriander and a whole combo of spicy peppers. It’s a classic flavor in Moroccan/North African (Maghreb) cuisine. You can make it yourself or buy it pre-fab but blogger Emily warns that you need to double check to make sure all ingredients are Paleo- friendly if you don’t opt for your own home-made batch.
Like meatballs? Like Thai flavors? Here is your perfect combo. These ground beef balls have all the requisites of a Thai dish – red curry paste, coconut milk, lime juice, cilantro. I especially appreciate the coleslaw recipe that is included; it’s a great accompaniment to the meatballs! It’s super fresh and full of healthy veggies – these two sound like a winning combination.
