Too Much Excitement!

I was really excited when Michelle from Nom Nom Paleo sent me her new cookbook. Who wouldn’t be excited to find a large red box on their doorstep 🙂

And my excitement continued when I opened the book, since – in addition to pages upon pages of recipes and yummy photos – there were also super-cool illustrations of Michelle and her family (including her kids, Big O and Little O, and her husband, Henry).

My Favorite Chapter

This book is filled with over 100 delicious recipes, but my favorite chapter is definitely the very first one, which is entitled “Building Blocks,” since most of the recipes in this chapter can be used to enhance other recipes or dishes. There are recipes for Dukkah (an Egyptian spice blend), Magic Mushroom Powder, her famous Paleo Sriracha sauce, Macadamia Nut “Ricotta”, Bacon Aioli, and a ton more!

And every page is infused with Michelle’s fantastic humor, like her tip for her “Mushroom Chips” – “Croutons are evil and bland! Toss these babies [mushroom chips] onto your salads instead!”

Why I Love This Book

1. First of all, I Love Michelle!
Michelle is a wonderful cook and blogger, and I love chatting with her every time we meet! This cookbook is an amazing reflection of her and her blog.

2. I’m also a Foodaholic
As an avid food lover who has eaten at some of the top rated (some expensive, some cheap) restaurants in the world, Michelle’s story of being obsessed “with all things gustatory” really resonates with me! And like Michelle, I’ve definitely travelled to many cities just to eat – luckily I also have amazing foodie friends (and a husband) who go travel with me to eat!

3. I Love Ethnic Influences in Food
You’d think growing up in England would have killed every taste-bud I had, but I was lucky to have travelled a lot across the globe and to have eaten everywhere I go. I love the thrill of tasting flavors from different parts of the world and experiencing traditional cuisines. I also love experimenting with those flavors and spices to create new dishes. And many of Michelle’s recipes bring together a lot of cuisines and flavors (for example, Vietnamese Lettuce Cups, Siu Yoke (Crispy Roast Pork Belly), Cavolini Al Forno, and Curried Cream of Broccoli Soup).
