Blueberry Chocolate Gelatin Smoothie

I’ve been quite excited about all the gelatin I recently bought.  I’ve experimented with jello already (see here for the delicious recipe), and so today, I decided it was time for a gelatin drink.  Since gelatin congeals when it’s dissolved in cold liquids, it seemed like the idea ingredient in a smoothie!

I start off with my almond coconut milk (you can also use coconut milk, almond milk, regular milk, or just water).  I poured 1 cup into my blender (or use a Vitamix for even better results).almond-coconut-milk

Then I added 1/2 cup of blueberries, 1 scoop (30g) of chocolate protein powder, 1/2 cup of ice, and 2 tablespoons of gelatin powder.

After blending, it gets thick fast so enjoy immediately!  I enjoyed it so much, I made myself another one in the evening.smoothie

Instructions

  1. Add 1 cup of almond coconut milk into the blender (or Vitamix) first. This prevents the dry ingredients sticking to the bottom of your blender.
  2. Then add the 1/2 cup of blueberries, 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder, 1/2 cup of ice, and the 2 tablespoons of gelatin powder.
  3. Blend well.

Thank you for this recipe. I bring smoothies to school with me to drink later in the day – will this gel up too much if I do that?

    Louise - October 23

It does gel up quickly when it’s cold – perhaps take it with you and stir in the gelatin when you are ready to drink it?

How does yours gel in cold liquids? I bought the same kind, and when I tried adding the gelatin to cold coffee, it didn’t dissolve at all-just remained a grainy texture.

It mixes in better if you blend it.
