My mum’s plum tree went crazy this year, and we had plums everywhere. If you open the fridge, there’s a whole bucket full of juicy plums, and if you walk outside, you have to be careful not to squish any plums that rolled onto the ground!

So, to help her eat her delicious plums, I’ve been devising new recipes using them.

This plum infused iced tea is superb for the summer months – plus it’s simple and gives a nice twist to your typical iced teas.

The process of making plum infused iced tea is pretty simple – brew some black tea in a teapot (always use boiling water to brew your tea and don’t over brew or you’ll get that horrible bitter taste). Drop the chopped plums into the same teapot, then just wait for the tea to cool enough to be placed in the fridge. You can keep the plums in there to infuse more overnight. Serve with some ice.

Plum Infused Iced Tea Recipe

  • Author: Louise Hendon
  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cook Time: 0 minutes
  • Total Time: 5 minutes
  • Yield: 4 glasses 1x
  • Category: Drinks
  • Cuisine: American

Ingredients

  • 1 plum, chopped into large chunks and stone removed
  • 4 cups of boiling water
  • 1 tea bag (I use British teas like this one so they are much stronger – please use the amount of tea bags you need to brew to the strength you like)

Instructions

  1. Pour the boiling water into a teapot with the tea bag – make multiple batches of tea if you want a large amount.
  2. Place the chopped plums into the hot tea. Remove the tea bags after the brew time (usually under 5 minutes).
  3. Cool and then place in fridge to chill.
  4. Serve with ice.

Notes

You can make a larger batch of this – use approx. 1 plum per 4 cups of tea.
