Zingy Salted Lime Soda
This is such a simple and refreshing drink – my dad loves it so much, he bought 10 limes all at once!
What is the difference between Club Soda, Seltzer Water, Sparkling Mineral Water and Tonic Water?
- Club soda – water, artificial carbonation, and some minerals.
- Seltzer water – water, artificial carbonation
Sparkling mineral water (e.g., San Pellegrino, Perrier) – usually naturally carbonated mineral water.
- Tonic water – water, artificial carbonation, quinine, and typically some form of sweetener (to cover up the bitterness of quinine).
Generally, you can use club soda, seltzer water, and sparkling mineral water interchangeably, unless you’re really particular, because the minerals only change the taste very slightly. However, always check the ingredients as some waters are flavored with artificial flavors (e.g., lime, lemon). Tonic water is different to the other 3 – it has a distinct bitter flavor from the quinine and typically has added sugar.

So, use club soda, seltzer water, or sparkling water for this recipe, but don’t use tonic water!
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1 and 1/4 cups chilled seltzer water (amount can be adjusted to taste)
- 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- Juice 1 lime and add the chilled seltzer water and salt to the lime juice.
- Stir gently to dissolve the salt.
- Serve chilled.
Sounds great any medicinal benefit as real tonic water is helpful for leg cramps but, now that they are adding “high fructose corn syrup” to it diminishes the effect dramatically and I won’t ingest that garbage.
