Paleo Breakfast Porridge

  • Prep Time: 5 minutes
  • Cook Time: 10 minutes
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x
  • Category: Breakfast, Snack
  • Cuisine: European

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup almonds, ground using a food processor or blender
  • 1/2 cup coconut cream (from the top of 1 can of refrigerated coconut milk)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • sweetener of choice (I added 1 teaspoon of raw honey, but stevia also works)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • dash of nutmeg
  • dash of cloves
  • dash of cardamom (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat the coconut cream and water in a small saucepan on medium heat until it forms a liquid.
  2. Add in the ground almonds and sweetener and stir to mix in.
  3. Keep stirring for approximately 5 minutes (it’ll start to thicken a bit more).
  4. Add in the spices (have a taste to check whether you want more sweetener or spices) and serve hot.

Tracy J. - February 17

How finely did you ground the almonds? Would almond flour be a replacement? Or are they less ground than that?
I think my daughter would LOVE this for breakfast!

    Louise - February 17

I like to grind my own (it’s cheaper, and I like them a bit chunkier than the flour).

Garage Gyms - February 17

This looks like a tasty breakfast. Is it filling?

    Louise - February 17

    Yes- very!

Nichole - February 18

Thank you for this! My picky 19 month old loves it.

    Louise - February 18

    🙂 Thanks Nichole!

Carolyn - February 19

Looks great, Louise. And I just bought some coconut cream, how convenient!

Natashalh - March 1

I bet the cardamom adds such a nice touch! This looks like a great breakfast for a rainy Hawaiian “winter” morning.

    Louise - March 1

    Thanks!

alexandria - March 10

Hey, I was just wondering, if I were to use almond flour instead of ground almonds, how much would you suggest I use?

    Louise - March 14

The same amount should be fine.

Darlene - March 14

Louise .. this is great! I missed my hot cereal so much!!

    Louise - March 14

    Thanks Darlene.

Maggie - June 1

After skimming the coconut cream off the top of the can of coconut milk, what do you do with the remainder of the coconut milk?

    Louise - June 2

It’s mostly just water at the bottom, so I just throw it away. If you want a thinner porridge then you can shake up the can first and use the entire can.

Alan - June 29

Very good breakfast and also very filling. Love it

    Louise - June 30

    Glad you like it!

Melissa - June 30

Could you use cashews or walnuts instead of almonds? If so would you add to or change the recipe at all?

    Louise - June 30

Yep – those should work (but it will taste different!). No need to change the recipe.

Sally - August 16

Do you use activated almonds?

    Ancestral Chef - August 17

If I have them available, then yes.

Lydya - January 16

Made this for breaky today super yummy. Omitted sweetener and cardamom and added sliced banana. It was so so so filling I can barely move after from such a small serving 🙂
